My professor busted me for plagiarism last year. I had copied 3 lines from Wikipedia and forgot to rewrite them. I got a zero on that assignment.
After that day, I found QuillBot. In this QuillBot Review 2026, I’ll tell you if the free plan is actually good for students based on my 8 months of real use.
If you’re a student wondering if QuillBot’s free plan is worth it in 2026, here’s my honest review after using it for 8 months.
What is QuillBot?

QuillBot is an AI writing tool that rewrites your sentences to make them sound better. It also has a summarizer, grammar checker, and citation generator. Think of it as Grammarly + a paraphrasing tool combined.
QuillBot Free Plan: What You Actually Get in 2026
I’ve been using the free version since day one. Here’s what works:
1. Paraphraser – 125 Words Limit
You can rewrite up to 125 words at one time. You get 2 modes free: “Standard” and “Fluency”. My use: I paste my research points and hit paraphrase. It makes my writing sound human and I avoid plagiarism. For a 500-word essay, I just do it 4 times. Takes 2 minutes.
2. Summarizer – 1200 Words Limit
You can paste up to 1200 words of messy lecture notes. It gives you bullet points or a paragraph summary. My use: My professor talks for 2 hours non-stop. I record, transcribe, and dump it in QuillBot. I get the full lecture in 5 key points.
3. Grammar Checker – Unlimited
This is basically Grammarly’s free version. Fixes spelling and basic grammar. It works inside the QuillBot website.
4. Citation Generator – Unlimited
This one’s a hidden gem. Put in a website link or book name, and it creates MLA, APA, Chicago citations in 1 click. Saved me hours during finals.
You can try it on the official QuillBot website. https://quillbot.com
What’s Missing in Free Plan?
You don’t get: Plagiarism Checker, Tone Detection, or Compare Modes. Those are paid. The paid plan is $8.33/month if you pay yearly
But honestly? For daily homework, the free plan is enough. I haven’t paid once in 8 months.
QuillBot vs Grammarly: Which is Better for Students?
– Use Grammarly if: Your main problem is grammar and spelling mistakes.
– Use QuillBot if: Your main problem is “how do I rewrite this without copying” or “my notes are too long”.
I use both. Grammarly for final checking, QuillBot for writing the first draft.
Final Verdict: Is QuillBot Free Worth It?
Yes, 100%. If you are a student who writes essays, research papers, or takes messy notes, the free plan will save you hours.
You don’t need the Premium plan unless you write 10,000+ words per month or your college requires plagiarism reports.
My rating: 4.5/5 for students. The 125-word limit is annoying, but you can’t complain when it’s free.
